The Rocky Honey Story

Rocky Honey is sourced and crafted in Rockdale, Sydney. This area contains a large diversity of native plants including tea trees and paperbark gums, as well as a thriving wetland area to the east, providing the bees with an abundance of flowers and blossoms to forage for pollen. The bees can cover a 5km range on their daily journey to find flowers and their efforts are rewarded by the outstanding flavour of the honey they produce.

Dirk Slotboom of Waterforms International wanted to contribute to the conservation of the local environment and identified beekeeping as an effective way to achieve this goal.

The hives are situated on the roof of Waterforms International’s factory in Rockdale and due to this elevated position, the hives are protected from many of the ground dwelling pests that can compromise the quality of the hives. The height also ensures the bee’s activities aren’t an obstacle for the people living and walking around the area.

The Department of Primary Industry recently inspected the Rocky Honey hives and noted the elevated location provided an “excellent oasis” for the bees.

Rocky Honey was awarded Silver at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2023 and in 2024 scored well over 90% for flavour, density, colour, aroma, cleanliness and brightness.
